Sleeveless Cowl Neck Crochet Sweater

Cowl Neck Crochet Sweater - Free Pattern

After spending some time away from the blog, I am back with a fantastic and free crochet pattern to share with you today – a Sleeveless Cowl Neck Crochet Sweater! The body of this elegant sweater is made using only half double crochets, with every other row consisting of alternating front and back loop half double crochets to provide some interesting texture.

I used a #3 weight cotton yarn to keep things lightweight and airy. The color used is called sandstone and I am a little obsessed with the earthy/peachy/gold hue. If you are fair like me, this color is super flattering. This sleeveless crochet sweater is finished off with a comfy, loosely draped cowl neck. SHAPE NECK (Left Side):
(RS) Row 1:

(WS) Row 2:

Row 3:

Ch 1, hdc in each st across, turn. (12, 14, 14, 16, 16, 18) sts.

Repeat row 2. Fasten off.

SHAPE NECK (Right Side):

With RS facing, go to the row where the sts were left unworked on the left side neck shaping. Skip next (34, 36, 42, 48, 54, 56) sts. Join yarn with a sl st to next st.

(RS) Row 1:

Ch 1, hdc in same st and in next (11, 13, 13, 15, 15, 17) sts, turn. (12, 14, 14, 16, 16, 18) sts.

Row 3:

Ch 1, hdc in each st across, turn. (12, 14, 14, 16, 16, 18) sts.

Repeat row 2. Fasten off.

Once you have made two body panels, stack them on top of each other with RS facing in, and WS facing out. Sew shoulder seams. Turn RS out, then sew side seams from the bottom up (12, 12, 12, 13, 14, 14)” until you reach armhole shaping. Fasten off and weave in all ends.

COWL NECK:

This portion of the garment will be worked in rounds. With RS facing out, attach yarn at the middle of one side of the neck hole. It doesn’t matter which, as we haven’t defined a front and back yet. You will define which side is the front or back depending on where you start making the cowl neck portion of this garment.

Round 1:

Ch 1, hdc in same st and evenly around the neck hole, achieving an even number of stitches. Sl st to beginning hdc, turn.

Round 2:

Ch 1 hdc in same st, *BLhdc next st, FLhdc next st; repeat from * around until last st, sl st to beginning hdc, turn.

Round 3:

Ch 1, hdc in same st and in each st around, sl st to beginning hdc, turn.

Repeat rounds 2 and 3 until cowl has achieved the length and volume you prefer. I did 27 rounds total for mine.
