Gingham Waves Baby Blanket – Free Crochet Pattern

crochet-gingham-baby-blanket

I really loved making the Gingham Waves Baby Blanket I am sharing with you today. This pattern uses single crochet and front post treble crochet to create an unexpected twist on traditional gingham blankets. Do not let the look of the “squares” fool you, as this blanket is made in one solid piece!

I used Red Heart With Love yarn for my gingham blanket. Traditionally, gingham uses complementary colors. As soon as I saw the Waterlily colorway in the store, with the coordinating lilac and iced aqua solid colors, I was sold! This yarn works best with a slightly larger hook, so even though the pattern is primarily worked in single crochet, in still works up fairly quickly.

To finish the Gingham Waves Baby Blanket, I used fringe at the top and bottom. The alternating solid colors that are used in the fringe really bring the look of this gingham blanket together! I hope you try this pattern out and if you do, I would love to see your take on it. You can tag me @cashmeredandelions on Instagram!

To add fringe:

I added knotted sections of fringe to each end of my gingham blanket. Each knotted section of fringe is comprised of 3 strands of yarn. I cut each strand 8″ in length. For each knotted section, group the strands of yarn together and fold in half, forming a loop at one end. Take your hook and draw the loop through the stitch that you’re attaching the fringe to. Next, draw the loose ends of the yarn through the loop and pull tight. For the example above, I alternated solid colors (lilac, iced aqua, and tan) for each knotted section of fringe, skipping 2 sts in between.

Love this design and can’t wai5 to get started. I am in the U.K., so please what weight yarn and also how much does a skein weigh I.e. grams. Thank you

    1. Please let me first apologize for the delay in response. I am so sorry for that! The yarn used in this pattern is a #4 worsted weight yarn. The particular brand I used (Red Heart With Love) weighs 7 oz (198 g) per skein in the solid colors, and 5 oz (141 g) per skein in the multi colors. I hope this helps! Thank you for visiting!

  2. What is the multiples for this to make bigger? I love this pattern by the and thank you for sharing.
